How Often Should a Computer or Laptop Be Serviced?

Most people only take their laptop to a repair shop when it's completely broken. However, preventative maintenance can extend the life of your device by years and save you from devastating data loss.

The Annual Checkup (Once a Year)

For standard users, we highly recommend bringing your laptop in for a professional service at least once a year. This annual service should include:

• Internal Dust Cleaning: Removing the back panel and using compressed air to clear the cooling fans and heatsink.
• Thermal Paste Replacement: The paste that transfers heat from the processor to the heatsink dries out over time. Replacing it keeps the laptop running cool.
• Virus & Malware Scan: Ensuring there are no hidden background programs stealing data or slowing the system.
• Hardware Diagnostics: Checking the health of the hard drive and battery.

When to Service Immediately

Do not wait for your annual checkup if you notice any of these warning signs:

• The fan is making a loud grinding or clicking noise.
• The laptop is uncomfortably hot to the touch.
• You receive frequent "Blue Screen of Death" (BSOD) errors.
• The battery is swelling (which can break the trackpad or cause a fire).
